Hello Kitty Sanrio Game Master Exhibition 2015

Having waited for a complete year, Sanrio finally announced to host a special themed Hello Kitty exhibition called “Sanrio Game Master” this summer again. Hong Kong is usually known and famous as Hello Kitty paradise. However, in the past two years Hello Kitty fans had to cope with the fact that there weren’t any special Hello Kitty events, exhibitions, activities or promotions. In fact, many retail chains and food outlets started to replace Hello Kitty with other cartoon characters due to too frequent launch of Hello Kitty merchandises and people getting tired of seeing Hello Kitty.

Hong Kong’s 7-Eleven didn’t have Hello Kitty promotion this year any more (it has been a tradition for many years) and launch a special Disneyland toy series with major Disney characters instead. Every summer’s Hello Kitty plush promotion in Hong Kong McDonald’s was replaced by McDonalds Nanoblocks (similar to LEGO, but much smaller) toys. Even Langham Place shopping mall – who always had Hello Kitty Exhibition during summer vacation – organized their summer exhibition with another Sanrio character called Gudetama (the lazy egg), which I have to admit, is also very adorable. Even in the annual Sanrio ranking competition, Hello Kitty only ranked 7th place in 2015.

Last week, Sanrio suddenly and unexpectedly announced to host their annual Hello Kitty event “Sanrio Game Master” at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre. This event is designed and themed around board games. From my experience from the previous Hello Kitty exhibition, I know that the limited souvenirs will be sold out on the first two days. So I decided to visit the exhibition on the opening day – the 6th of August 2015.

The opening day was on Thursday. Not only the entrance ticket was cheaper on weekdays but theoretically there would be less visitors in the morning.

No one was waiting in line to buy tickets

As pervious exhibition, the ticket counter is located on the ground floor of E-Max. When I arrived at the ticket counter, there was actually no queue. So cool. I could take some clear and cute pictures without too much hassle, enjoy the exhibition and hopefully score some of the limited edition items and souvenirs.

However, when I saw how many people waiting to enter the exhibition at the end of E-Max, I was totally shocked. You must be kidding me !!! The queue was so long that I couldn’t see the end. Due to the limited space, the queue was divided to three groups. And you guess right, I was on the end of the third group (tear).

Another side of the ticket

Since there wasn’t much I could do while waiting, I took some pictures of my tickets. It would be destroyed later and I only could keep the ticket stubs for memory.

Luckily, the staff didn’t let us wait too long and after around 30mins it was finally my turn. The staff stamped my admission ticket with a time marker. If you could manage to leave the exhibition within 85 min, there would be an extra bonus gift.

Before I could start to explore the exhibition, the staff played a short video to explain the game rules in the Master Guide Room (a closed small area). If you could collect 4 stamps, you can redeem a special toy capsule. However, each game costs you HKD 25 and you only can get one stamp if you win (believe me, not every game is that easy).

My purpose was clear : taking photos and purchasing limited souvenirs. So I didn’t play any games.

Once I stepped into the exhibition hall, it’s like walking onto a huge board game. The entire exhibition hall was one big open area (almost like a huge casino with lots of games, slot machines and other attractions). I decided to explore the Hello Kitty Sanrio Game Master event in a clockwise direction.

The cute dice was facing to the entrance. It was one of the main characters of this themed exhibition.

Hello Kitty Doll House was right behind the cute dice. A kawaii Hello Kitty car was parking in front of it. Do you notice that it is exactly the same with my Hello Kitty Tomica Car (Wanna know how the Hello Kitty Tomica Car looks like, just click the above link). So so so cute !

The Hello Kitty game master and ring toss bunny were so cute that I couldn’t resist taking photos. If you would like to get the free gift, remember to control the time and exit within 85 min.
